We enjoyed celebrating Kaitlyn and Keith's engagement this weekend at the Brock's house.  Below are some highlights:

We had lots of DIY projects for the decor.  One was spray painted mason jars:

I didn't have enough mason jars, so I made JP eat spaghetti for dinner all week :)

I tapped the lips of the jars down, then spray painted the inside.  Afterwards, I learned that tapping the lip was not a neccessary step. 

Because the gold can be opaque, I then spray painted the inside white.

My next project was spray painting pumpkins:

 

After wiping them down and taping the stems, they turned out perfect!

We also made various banners for the party...

Kaitlyn is so creative. She picked out a wine that describes each hostess, wrapped in the cutest tea town and a heart shaped cookie cutter.

The wine that she gave me is a red organic wine.

Perfect.

Table Conversion

As you know, I've been in home decor mode. Below is just one easy thing I converted a few weeks ago:

I took an old rolling cart that used to be in my laundry room, cleaned it up, and made a table/ storage with it!

One reason why I love Home Depot: They are always more than willing to help out a clueless girl wandering around aimlessly. One of their employees renovates furniture and gave me specific instructions.



I bought a piece of pretty wood that was about ½ inch longer than the cart top measurements. I also got 2 grades of sandpaper, stain and a satin gloss.
I sanded the wood (including sides and corners) with the rougher sandpaper, followed with the softer. I then wiped it down with a wet rag and let it dry in the sun. An hour later, I stained the top and sides of the wood with an old t-shirt, then did the same with the gloss. The most important thing: Go with the strokes of the wood.



I know this is a “sinch” to many people, but anything with cutting wood and staining is a big deal to me – and I’m so proud of my finished product!

I have gotten a little carried away with spray paint recently. It just dawned on me how easy it is to make something over. This is my latest accomplishment:

I got it at a yard sale a few years ago when it was a crumby gold mirror. Now I get to double-check my hair before walking out the door in a fabulous YELLOW (whoa, really yellow) mirror!

magnets

I've been in desperate need of magnets lately. I haven't found anything cute, and when I did, it was $22 for 4 of them. I won't fall for that!



I went to Michael's and bought a packet of 8 magnets for about $4. I hot-glued the magnets inside painted bottlecaps. Voila! Cheap magnets.

I LOVE wrapping presents. My first job was giftwrapping at Belk's when I was in high school. After the Christmas stint (and becoming numb to it), I took a couple years off of wrapping beautiful presents, but I'm back in love!
